How does oxidation affect the metals and fats? What are they called? How can it be prevented?

Oxidation in metals causes to form a layer of oxide on metals. This process is called Rusting and Corrosion.

Oxidation of fats mainly in food items makes them smell unpleasant and change in taste, they become rancid. This process is called Rancidity.

Oxidation of metals can be prevented by:

  • Galvanization
  • Electroplating
  • Painting
  • Anodising

Oxidation of fats can be prevented by :

  • Antioxidants
  • Refrigerating
