Plants need sunlight, so the stem respond to sun light by growing towards it. This is known as phototropism

Auxins are responsible for phototropism in plants.when auxins are exposed to sunlight they get destroyed.hence they move towards shaded region which causes the plant to bend towards sunlight.this results in phototropism in plants.
