The pitcher plant leaves are modified in the shape of a pitcher with the top of the leaf forming a lid to prevent rainwater from entering into the pitcher. When an insect sits on the mouth of the pitcher plant, the hairs present in the pitcher gets down the insect into plant where enzymes are present in digestive juices which digest the insect.
