plants use carbon di oxide for photosynthesis and hence reduce the co2 levels.

If trees are planted in large scale, the carbon dioxide gas present in atmosphere get absorbed by plants for photosynthesis.
Since burning of fossil fuels produce carbon dioxide, it get absorbed by plants. This will also increase the oxygen content in the atmosphere.
