How does poets past different from poets mother?

The photograph shows the poet's mother and her two cousins holding hands wearing swimming costumes and ready to dive into the sea. They all are wearing quaint dresses that were a thing of the past and not worn anymore. This was the difference. All have changed in the poet's time except the sea.
