Rashtrakutas were initially subordinate to the Chalukyas of Karnataka. In the mideighteenth century, Dantidurga, a Rashtrakuta chief, overthrew his Chalukya overlord and established his right to rule by performminging the hiranya-garbha ritual.

They were subordinate to the chaulakyas  of Karnataka.

In the mid eight century Dantidurga a Rashtrakuta chief overthrew his overlord and performed a ritual called Hiranya Garba.
