Respiration occurs in plants through the process of Photosynthesis. This word literally means Synthesis of "photo" or light. First the Sunlight is trapped in plants by the presence of chlorophyll in chloroplasts ( a cell in plants )

Air is trapped through small pores called "Stomata" present on leaf blades of plant leaves.

Water as well as minerals are extracted from the soil by the roots. All of water and minerals are then synthesized in the presence of sunlight trapped by chlorophyll and carbon dioxide gas that evolves plant food, called starch. This process altogether as stated before is known widely as photosynthesis.
