Both  the dolphin and the crocodile cannot breathe under water. These two animals breathe in air into their lungs the same way human beings do. Dolphins use a blowhole located on top their head while crocodiles use their nostrils to breathe in. However, these animals can hold their breathes for long hours under water.
The dolphin respiration works by the help of it's circulatory system. The heart and blood activates the act of circulation. Therefore the dolphin heart pumps oxygen rich blood its body after which the blood returns in high composition of carbon through their lungs while crocodiles have trachea which connects the mouth and lungs hence air is inspired and expired, they also have the palate which separates the breathing and eating tubes so has to ease in respiration.
