The relationship developed between the two is based on mutual benefit that they can obtain. The fact that the leguminous plants need nitrogen cannot go unnoticed. It is through the Rhizobium bacteria that they are able to gather their supply of the required quantities of nitrogen for their survival. In return, the bacteria gets a place to live and survives the toughest environmental conditions.
