1) Number of primary schools have increased significantly up since the launch of this scheme in 2000-01. Now you can easily locate a govt. elementary school in or nearby any remote village, all over India. These school buildings are effectively used during elections, for casting of votes.

2) Enrollment percentage of school age children has gone up.According to UNESCO Institute for Statistics: Overall enrollment percentage has went up from 83.5 % in 2000 to 98.16% currently. Even, female enrollment rate has went up from 75.91 to 97.62 during the same period.A lot of credit should be given to Mid-day Meal Scheme also for this enrollment % increase.

Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan helps to improve elementary education in India in the following ways:

  1. As a result of government policy, primary education expanded to over five lakh villages. But this huge expansion of schools often can not provide quality education as there are high dropout rate
  2. In order to provide elementary education to all children in the age group of 6-14 years by 2010, the government has started 'Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan’.
  3. It is a time-bound initiative of the Central Government in partnership with the states, the local government, and the community for achieving the goal of universalization of elementary education.
  4. By introducing bridge courses and back-to-school camps, the government tried to increase the enrolment in elementary education.
  5. Mid-day Meal Scheme has encouraged the attendance of students in schools and also helps to improve the nutrition level of students.
