Shylock is most and memorable character in Merchant of Venice.
On stage, it is Shylock who makes play, and almost all of great actors of English and Continental stage have attempted role.
But, his character is always in critical debate. In this Shylock plays as an obstacle between two lovers.
Shylock is wealthy Jew and moneylender.
Bassanio, young Venetian, is spendthrift, and asks his friend to lend him money in order for him to pay off his debts.
He agreed but as his wealth relies on his ships, which are at sea, and therefore needs to borrow money.
