How does slaked lime help in the treatment of acidic soil.

if the soil is too acidic (having low ph), then it is treated with materials like quick lime (calcium oxide) or slaked lime(calcium hydroxide) or chalk ( calcium carbonate). all these materials are bases and hence react with the excess acid present in soil and reduce its acidity.

in this case the soil is acidic and is not fit for plants to grow so to make it neutral we need to add a base , slaked lime is a base if we add it to soil the acid and base neutralises, so the slaked lime helps the soil to neutralise and make the soil fit for plant growth....
