soaps have two part one is hydrophilic (water loving) and another is hydrophobic(water hating).
these parts together form a micelle(i.e. spherical cluster of soap that helps in removing of dirt).
then we rinse the clothes by water..it remove that micelle then dirt from clothes get remove and become clean.
we prefer to choose detergent instead of soap because detergent also works well in hard water but soap is not effective in hard water.
