Solutions

Answer :

Effect of temperature on solubility of a solid in a liquid :

  • If the dissolution process is endothermic (∆H > 0), the solubility increase with rise in temperature.
  • If the dissolution process is exothermic (∆H < 0), the solubility decrease with rise in temperature.

Effect of temperature on solubility of a gas in a liquid :

  • As dissolution is an exothermic process, then according to Le Chatelier's Principle, the solubility should decrease with increase of temperature.
