1. How does sound is produced by a vibrating object in a medium ?
>> While the object is in vibration in a medium it causes vibration of medium around it , The vibration of medium causes the production of Sound .
Sound waves are longitudinal waves which shows compression and rarefaction while producing sound .
2. A child hear an echo from a cliff 4 sec after the sound is produced from a powerful cracker . How far is the cliff away from the children .(velocity of Sound = 334 m/s)
♦ As given
Time to hear the eco = 4 sec
Velocity of Sound = 334 m/s
♦ As it's a eco then we should consider this :-
• In the time given the sound travels twice the distance between the reflector and the source .
♦ So the distance traveled during 4 sec = 2d , where d is the distance between the child and the cliff.
♦ Then as
Distance = velocity × time
So the distance between the child and the cliff is 668 m

How does sound produced by a vibrating object in a medium?
The sound is produced only by vibration. Wherever you heard any sound, it's due to vibration of something. When we talk, our vocal cords (larynx) vibrate.
This happens because when the objects vibrate, they just push the air which is in contact with it. Then that particle of air passes another particle and this goes on.
In this vibration, they collapse with each other which produces a sensation. This sensation is called as sound. Thus, the sound is produced.
A child hears an echo from cliff. 4 second after sound from a powerful cracker is produced. how far is cliff from the child. (Velocity of sound is 334 ms⁻¹).
Given that,
Time = 4 s
Velocity of sound = 334 m/s
As we know,
An echo travels a distance in a given time for twice.
So, the distance travelled in 4 s must be = 2d where d is distance between the child and th cliff.
We know that,
Distance = velocity time
2d = 334 4
2d = 1,334
d =
d =
So, the distance between the child and the cliff is 668 m.
