Temperature affects organisms in several ways. Some of them are listed below :-

  • Temperature affects the enzymatic activities of organisms.

  • The enzyme kinetics of organisms change with change in temperature.

  • Due to the change in the enzyme kinetics, metabolic activities and other physiological activities of organisms are also affected.

  • Organisms can bear wide ranges of temperature variations and narrow ranges of temperature variations depending upon the level of adaptations in their bodies.

  • Organisms which can withstand wide ranges of temperature variations are known as Eurythermal organisms.

  • Organisms which can withstand a narrow range of temperature variations are known as Stenothermal organisms.
