Because as we move left to right atomic no. Increases and effective nuclear charge increses that'swhy atomic radius decreases and when we go down the group atomic no. Increses and also no. Of shells increases thatswhy effective nuclear charge decreases so atomic radius increases down the group... Hope this one is useful...

allysaltamash14: increases
moomin97: also down the group
moomin97: and so down the group also increases
allysaltamash14: yeeh as uh can see helium and sodium and potassium atomic no.
moomin97: but when left to right atomic no. increases the atomic radius decreases
allysaltamash14: yeeh bro read my ans carefully.... i hv written the reason for this
moomin97: and doen the group when atomic no oncreases atomic no also increases
allysaltamash14: bro... down the group atomic no increases as well as atomic radii aslo increses because increasing of no. of shells which reduce the z effective nuclear chrge... got it
moomin97: kk thx soo much
allysaltamash14: ur wlcm

because when we going downward in the group of periodic table the size of elements increases and effective nuclear charge decreases... so, the atomic radii of the element change in a group....
