Breastfeeding releases oxytocin and prolactin, hormones that relax the mother and make her feel more nurturing toward her baby which help make the transition easier for the baby, facilitating relaxation and calm.

The benefit of oxytocin and prolactin hormones are given below :

Oxytocin hormone

This hormone helps during the delivery or expulsion or parturition of the baby.

This hormone acts on the muscles of uterus which results in strong contractions of the uterus so that the foetus can be expelled out from the mother's womb.

Prolactin hormone

This hormone is required for the proper growth of baby. This hormone is also responsible for producing milk from the mother to nourish the baby.
