After being hatched, the chick gets to know the imprinting of a large bird around it within the first 24 to 48 hours. Not necessarily the large bird would be its mother but the chick gets the impression it is the mother.

Imprinting occurs to all in any species in this manner during the first phases of life after birth, and the first large impression makes the newborn feel that it is the mother.

Explanation: It involves vision, hearing and olfaction along with touch. Just few hours after hatching the chicks use these senses to see the first creature around, usually the mother and bonds.
