Red electrical wire indicates the secondary live wires in a 220-volt circuit, used in some types of switch legs and in the interconnection between smoke detectors that are hard-wired into the power system. You can connect a red wire to another red wire or to a black wire.

Hello
Actually in house wiring basically there are three types of wires.
Red insulation is for live wire.
Black insulation is for neutral wire.
Green insulation is for earth wire.
Red and black are the circuit wires which will pass through electricity board meter, board fuse, distribution box and finally to our sockets so that we can connect our appliances.
Green wire is connected to a metallic plate which is buried deep under the earth and is directly connected to the sockets. This wire does not pass through boards like the live and neutral wire. This wire is meant for carrying excessive charge to the underground and neutralising it and prevent the user of metallic body appliance to get severe shocks
Thank you
Hope it helped!
