For a common man, elections give them opportunity to participate in the political process and exercise their franchise. [2] They feel, by means of elections, they can put pressure on the political parties or leaders to adopt welfare policies and programmes to respond to their needs. [3] The common man feels that his/her vote plays an important role in the formation of government and in the way the country runs. [4] It gives them an opportunity to bring about peaceful transition in the government. [5] The interest of voters in election-related activities has been increasing over the years. During the recent elections, more than one-third voters took part in a campaign- related activities.
