Free fall is the state when we fall with the acceleration equals to the acceleration due to gravity.

.

On Earth , when we fall with acceleration 9.8 m/s^2 we experience weightlessness.

It's free fall.

..

.

When we talk about spacecraft ,

As there is no gravitational force

i.e. acceleration due to gravity is equals to zero .

.

The astronauts feel weightlessness and the state of weightlessness is only the state of free fall.

.

We can say that the astronauts are in the state of free fall . ((( As they are falling with 0 m/s^2 ( acceleration due to gravity in space ) which is equal the the acceleration due to gravity of space. )))).

.

.

Hope you get it.
