Democracy is not only about elections and popular will of the people .Let focus on dignity part.Assume you are a invidual of a minor community (jain , Buddhist in india, hindu in pak) Democratic set up safeguards the interests of minority groups in many ways . Sikh in india allow to carry a weapon .They can wear turban and grow hair even if it is not allowed in army because indian democracy recognize culture specific norms .Now come to social inclusion .SC ,ST ,OBC,tribal and women are not empowered enough to exercise their right given by constitution furthermore merely giving rights is not going solve all problem a special arrangement is needed for them.this arrangement possible only in democracyDignity is assured when you are in equal footing in terms socio-economic statusFor this india adopted the idea of Democratic socialism. A minimum level of income ,social security is assured under our Democratic setup.Right to dissent i.e you have space to convey your issue which you think remain unheard.3.2k Views · View UpvotersRelated QuestionsMore Answers BelowHow can the dignity of a man be enhanced by democracy? How does a democracy in a country enhance the dignity of an individual? Why shouldn't Chinese people fight for democracy? Democracy is government of the people by the people and for the people. It is the principle of political equality on recognizing that to the poorest to the richest has the same status, people are not the subjects to the ruler they are the rulers themselves. Even when they make mistakes, they are responsible for their conduct. Hence,Democracy enhances the dignity of a citizen.
