Electronic configuration of an element tells us the no. of electron in it which is used in finding the valence electron and the atomic number of the element .
The no. of electron in the outer most shell specifies the position of an element in the periodic table.
eg. the no. of electron present in Na,K,Li,Rb is 1 so they all are placed in group 1.
