The poem "How the leaves came down " by Susan Coodlidge is a kind of conversation between the tree and it's leaves. In this poem, the leaves are shown as children of the father tree.
The season shown is autumn and the father tree is asking the leaves to go to bed means to fall off as they usually do in autumn season. The leaves are demanding one more days to stay on. But as one day passes, father tree sheds them.
The approach of father tree changes towarss the leaves through the poem as when the same leaves are fallen off, he bids a happy good night or a goodbye to the leaves. Now, he is sad for his bare looks. He now is missing his children but is waiting for their comeback.

In the poem 'How the Leaves came down' by Susan Coolidge, the tree represents a father and the leaves represent children.
The season shown is autumn and the father, tree, is asking the children, leaves to go to bed i.e. fall off, as they usually fall down in autumn season. The leaves want to stay a little longer and they whisper to each other that their father will forget them when they go away.
But the father, tree does not say anything and the tree shakes and shakes until the leaves fall down.
The approach of the father tree towards the leaves changes as at first, the father tree wants them to fall down and he bids them a happy goodbye; but he is sad for his bare looks and waits for them to come back.
