nitrogen fixing bacteria in the soil and within the root nodules of some plants converts nitrogen gas in the atmosphere at ammonia nitrates. Knight rider all fix nitrogen and can be absorbed by plants denitrifying bacteria converts nitrates back to nitrogen gas
