Genes contain information for production of proteins. These proteins manufacture. enzymes. Enzymes are in turn responsible for secreting hormones.

If production of enzymes and proteins is ineffecient, hormone produced will be less and plant will be short. But if enzyme production is efficient the hormone will be secreted in greater quantity and plant will be tall.
