Alleles present on the gene determine the height of the plant.

Explanation:

The gene for a particular trait is present on the homologous chromosome and regulates the height of the plant.

The height in the plant is tall and short. The genes have alleles in it which are responsible for the particular height in plant.

Tall trait is dominant to short height.

The allele for a particular gene is transferred to the progeny from both the parents. There are alleles for tall and short.

The genetic variation in height is also due to the mutations in alleles of the gene responsible for height.
