the greenhouse effect work much the same way on earth.gases in the atmosphere such as carbo dioxide traps heat just like the glass roof of a green house.During the day the sun shines through the atmosphere.eaeths surface warms up in the light this is the working of greenhouse effect.

on Venus we have maximum greenhouse effect that is why it's surface is 480° hotter than mercury.
