When the disciple was sentenced to death, he remembered his Guru. When he came, he devised a plan to confuse the king and said that he should go to the stake first. The king asked Guru the reason behind his wish to die first. The Guru replied that whoever will die first, would become the king of the Kingdom in his next life. Similarly, the person going immediately next to the stake would become the minister of the kingdom The king got confused. He did not want to lose his kingdom and so he with his minister went to the stake instead of the Guru and disciple. In this way, guru saved his disciple's life.
