Answer:The function of the judiciary is to ensure justice for all the citizens. For this the judiciary must be fair ,independent and impartial. The judges must feel safe and protected both regarding life and service conditions.

The judges are selected from eminent lawyers by a collegium.The collegium is a five-member body, which is headed by the incumbent Chief Justice of India  and comprises the four other senior most judges of the court at that time.The appointment is done by the President of India

To protect their term of service, the procedure to remove a judge from the post is by a special process given in the constitution of India. A judge of a supreme court can  be impeached only on the grounds of proved misbehavior or incapacity.
