The descending loop of Henle is pervious to water, but impermeable to electrolytes. In, this portion of Henle's loop all the the required water is absorbed. Whereas, the ascending loop of Henle is pervious to electrolytes, and impervious to water. Thus, in this portion of Henle's loop electrolyte absorption takes place. Thus, in this way Henle's loop helps in concentrating the urine in mammals for terrestrial adaptation.
