How does the media earn money

For publishers of digital media, revenue sources are constantly evolving and unique to the company. Before the rise of published digital media, newspapers and magazines made the bulk of their earnings on subscriptions/newsstand purchases of print issues, and advertising sales.

Traditional publishers that evolved from print to digital have had to embrace advertising as the primary revenue source. According to the Pew Research Center, $50.7 billion was spent on digital ads, including mobile, in 2014. That's up 18% from $43.1 billion in 2013. Pew also found that digital advertising has also grown as a percentage of total media advertising across all platforms: 28% in 2014, up from 25% in 2013. [Digital News — Revenue: Fact Sheet]

But subscriptions and the commodification of digital media is far from history. Established newspapers that have survived have been greatly devalued, but new media companies like Vice Media are emerging across multi-media platforms to earn big in the digital media space.

I'm answering this because my company, Outlit, is a social reading and publishing network. Outlit is a way to read hundreds of sources together in one customizable reading platform with your friends.

Our revenue model is based on offering users choices to access premium digital content. Users can get still get monthly Subscriptions to sources on Outlit, or they can read individual stories with Micropayments for on-demand access per article. We have tens of thousands of new stories daily from hundreds of established publications, while also enabling bloggers and writers to publish and earn from readers as well. [https://outl.it]

Sorry for the plug, but we are studying the data science of the value of digital media by using Outlit's userbase to determine the answer to questions like:

-What stories earn the most from readers, and why?
-What story length is optimal for publishers to grow readership and revenue?
-How many readers (%) of online digital media prefer to read ad-free?

...and so forth. These questions can only be answered by offering these choices to readers in the ever-evolving digital media publishing space, where revenue sources have changed significantly over time.

☆☞ Here is ur answer ☜☆

☆☞ Media networks face stiff competition for acquisition and distribution of content. Quality as well as exclusivity of content add to the competition across the media value chain. Most networks seek content in categories such as sports with exclusive rights.

☆☞ Broadcasters air television and radio content through owned or affiliated broadcasting stations. They often own some television and radio stations. Broadcasters make money largely through on-air advertising as well as fees to third parties for content retransmission.

☆☞ Cable networks provide content to distributors, including cable, telecommunications, and satellite operators. They also make money selling air time for advertisements.
