How does the moon move in the sky?

The moon's orbit carries it around Earth's sky once a month, because the moon takes about a month to orbit Earth. So the moon moves – with respect to the fixed stars – by about 12 to 13 degrees each day. The moon's orbital motion carries it eastward in Earth's sky.

Hey!!

During this event, the Moon movesfrom west to east, across the Sun's face. Because Earth rotates on its axis from west to east, the Moonand the Sun (and all other celestial objects) appear to move from east to west across the sky.
