How does the narrator compare his being in the school with learning swimming in China?

The narrator was quite nervous about his swimming lesson.As he didn't knew well swimming.
The narrator wanted to overcome his fear of water due to which he would miss the fun of boating, fishing and other water involving activities which was his main reason to learn swimming again. He hired a coach to teach him how to swim step by step and in different ways in terms to overcome his fear.
