This is because he couldn't go without brushing his teeth in morning. It also made his life misery as he have to carry the wrapped toothbrush into his handkerchief if he forgot it.

Narrator's toothbrush Make his life a misery while he is travelling.

EXPLANATION:

  • The narrator says that the packing of his toothbrush drives him to a degree of insanity because he either packs it even before he has brushed his teeth or doesn’t do it in any respect.
  • Jerome advised that his toothbrush became the simplest element which always haunted him at the same time as traveling and made his existence a distress.
  • He usually dreamt that he hadn’t packed it and wakened with bloodless perspiration and began looking for it.
  • In the morning packed it before using it and unpacked it once more.
  • It took the narrator much longer to pack the bag than he had predicted due to the fact he became disorganized and forgetful.
  • First, he forgot to percent the boots and had to reopen the bag.
  • Then, in his frantic search for his toothbrush he had to show the whole lot out after which he had to repack the bag.
