Both lives, food supply & livelihoods are at risk from this pandemic.

Explanation:

  • While the dissemination of the pandemic in certain countries has eased and cases have decreased, COVID-19 in others is resurgent or continues rapidly to propagate. This is already a worldwide issue that needs a global solution. We know it's going to "eventually retreat", however we do not know how quickly. We are all aware that this shock is very rare as it impacts core aspects of both food "supply & demand". We risk a future food crisis if measures to safeguard  the vulnerable are taken quickly; if "global food supply chains" are kept alive & if the pandemic throughout the food system is mitigated.
  • Quarantines, blocks & market, supply chains & trade dislocations restrict the access of people to adequate, nutritious & diverse  food sources, in particular in nations heavily impacted or have already hit by an elevated level of food insecurity. There is deep concern & emphasis is on people's short- and long-term exposure to health.
  • A severe slowdown in any economic area, and particularly in most fragile economies, would mean countries, in particular food import based countries, are struggling to have the requisite capital to buy food, as unemployment levels are growing and the economic effects of the COVID 19 are progressively felt. If food demand decreases in the coming months, prices are likely to decrease in 2020, with negative consequences on farmers &the agricultural industry.
  • The FAO analyses show that millions more will probably follow the hungry in the lack of immediate and effectual policies, due to the recession triggered by the COVID-19. This number based on the intensity of economic contractions and and its is known that there would millions of hungry people
  • SMEs, migrant and informal farm workers, pastoralists and fishermen who may be prevented from working their fields, caring for their animals or fishing are also vulnerable groups. They will have difficulty and face challenges for market access to sell their goods or to buy critical materials, or they would have to struggle because of higher food prices and low buying power. The job- & income losses for the harvest & processing job informal workers would hit hard. Millions of children miss school meals, that several of them along with no systematic access to social security, which include health insurance, which they have been given.
  • The imapct of the substantial demand reduction of developing nations , for example, nations substantially dependent upon primary commodity exports (food, raw materials, fuel) would be felt severely. For instance, african nations can not export their goods, such as petroleum and cotton, so their income continues to decrease. "Small islands & territories" would face tougher challenges , as tourism, their main source of income, has been shut down and is likely to persist as it is or considerably slow down till a treatment/vaccine is available.
