Vikram Seth, through his poem 'The Frog and the Nightingale' skilfully portrays the rise of manipulation and use of unethical means to fulfil unsatiable greed in modern society. These negative traits are displayed by the cunning frog, who exploits the innocent nightingale by misguiding her to sing far too loudly and eventually tires her out to death. His objective was primarily to regain his undeserved status as the unrivalled king of Bingle Bog, and his greed also led him to gain monetarily from the bird's talent. Similarly, humble and innocent people are often taken advantage of by more ambitious and ruthless people in society.
