How does the pole star help travellers and sailors at night?

The pole star as the name suggests, is located directly over the north pole.
As the earth rotates around its axis, the pole star unlike other stars in the night sky, DOES'T CHANGES ITS POSITION.
IT OCCUPIES A CONSTANT LOCATION in the sky. So the sailors can identify it and thereby find out the NORTH DIRECTION.
Note: however for someone on SOUTH POLE, IT'D BE NO HELP!! cs it wont be visible.
HOPE I THIS HELPED. :)
