It is an imaginary value of money needed to meet the basic demands of a person. It is determined by governments of different countries in accordance with minimum price of commodities and social norms and the present level of development in that country.

Poverty line can be different in different countries according to the level of development of the country

For example

=> Not owning a car in America can be considered as a sign of poverty.

=> But, owning a car in India is still a luxury.
