How does the rate of extinction compare to the rate of species formation on Earth today?

The rate of extinction is the number of specie extinct divided by the time while rate of formation is the number of new specie formed divided by time. ... But the changing environment is causing extinction pf many species. Hence in comparison, rate of extinction is faster than the rate of formation of species.
