Particles in the air start vibrating when the sound is created. Since sound travel in all directions the sound particles start vibrating in all directions . The vibrations of these particles reaches your ear and thus you hear the sound.
As for the second question because in space there is vacuum. There are no particles in Vacuum and so particles do not vibrate.

The sound produced by the musical instruments reaches our ear through vibration in the air. As we know that there are no air on the surface of the moon. So astronauts uses radio, telescope to communicate with each other.
