Solution

The Earth is in the form of a spherical that revolves around the sun. Due to revolution on its orbit the phenomenon of day and night or season changes. Due to spherical in shape only half portion of the earth receives sunlight and remaining part of the earth gets dark. The day - night is divided by "circle of illumination ".

The day night occurs due to rotation of the earth on its axis which would be completed in around 24 hours .

More information =>

Due to the spherical shape of the earth the areas on the equator receives more heat (sunlight) than the poles.
