Antonio and bassanio are friends . bassanio wants to marry a wealthy lady in Belmont . so he borrows money from a Jewish Shylock after signing a strange bond . the bond reads that Shylock may take a pound of flesh from Antonio's heart if bassanio fails to repay the money within three months . Shylock makes this because he wants to take revenge on Antonio as he was always teased by him since he was a Jewish money lender . thus the pound of flesh develops from the vengeance of Shylock
