The structure of Tim O'Brien's story "Ambush" relate to its title in the way that the narrator still continues to write many war stories but he is not able to talk of his wartime experiences.
It is due to the fact that he still carries the guilt inside him of killing an innocent person during the war in Vietnam in a grenade attack.
The self-consumption is the main reason and justifies the title completely.
