as we go down the 16th group of periodic table the tendency to gain electrons increases as their atomic size or atomic radius decreases. when atomic size of any element decreases then it's nucleus power at outermost shell increases and this all decreases the tendency to loss electrons and forming cations . And increases the tendency to gain electrons and forming anions

Atom with smaller size has more attraction for electrons as compared to large size atom
Because as the size increase the attraction between the nucleus and valence shell decrease,
Thus as we move down in the 16 group tendency to gain electrons will decrease
I. e
Electronegative character decrease....
