Money acts as a medium of exchange between consumers and sellers.

For instance if a shoemaker wants to buy wheat he will have first seek for a person who sells wheat as well as wants shoes in exchange of his wheat. To avoid such situations money play an important role like now the shoemaker only needs to search for a wheat seller and can give money in exchange of his wheat.
