What may be the case is that the wire carries an AC current and is placed in a constant magnetic field (a strong permanent magnet) or two wires are placed close to each other then magnetic force will be oscillatory (e.g. 50Hz or 60Hz mains) and it will vibrate so you will hear a humming noise.
