How does tooth enamel get damaged by eating chocolates and sweets?

As chocolates and sweets have sugar some bacteria like Streptococcus mutans act on these sugars and convert them into acids which react with enamel formed by Ca3(PO4)2, which is a base, undergo neutralization reaction which ultimately leads to tooth decay.
