Transpiration is the loss of water from the aerial parts of a plant, namely leaves because during evaporation water molecules are expellexpelled through stomatas (in leaves).
This loss of water in the form of vapour from the cells of a leaf creates a suction pull which in turn pulls water from the xylem cells of roots
During the day, when the stomatas are open, the transpiration pull becomes the major driving force in the movement of water in the xylem (because at night the effect of root pressure is more important)

As transpiration proceeds, water absorption occurs simultaneously to compensate the water loss from the leaf end. Most volume of waterentering plants is by means of passiveabsorption. ...
